Further to yesterday’s post about branding misadventures – it’s the day we thought would never come!! From the NGA website:
The National Gallery of Australia today confirmed that its “New Look” Stage One Building Project will open to the public on Friday, 1 October 2010. The redevelopment is the biggest transformation of the Gallery since its opening in 1982.
The new wing will be officially opened by the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC on the evening of Thursday 30 September 2010.
The new building includes 11 new Indigenous art galleries, Gandel Hall – a purpose built function space, a new expanded shop and sidewalk café.
Excitement! If everything I’ve seen and heard is true then this extension is going to solve many problems inherent in the NGA’s original design – particularly that the Australian art galleries were notoriously hard to find. Can’t wait to check it out.
Interesting that this info on the site makes the grand opening pretty much public knowledge…did someone say ART PARTY?
